The work of  Kakwirakeron R Montour can be found in various international private collections. His work typically focuses on Eastern Woodlands Indian culture and history, particularly of the 17th and 18th centuries.

The suject of this painting is the Mohawk saint, Kateri Tekakwitha, who resided in Montour's home community, Kahnawake Quebec, until her death in 1680. The painting was commission for the 2010 exhibition 'Soul Sister: The Revisioning of Kateri Tekakwitha' held at the Museum of Contemporary Native Art in Santa Fe New Mexico.
